Mrs. Lessie Lue Prude

June 22, 1919 - February 23, 2010

Lessie Lue Cochran Wilson Prude was born June 22, 1919 to the union of Silas Cochran and Annie Swan of Camilla Georgia. She was the ninth of twenty-two siblings. She committed her life to Christ at an early age in Georgia.

Lessie was married to Benjamin Wilson, Sr. in 1938 and to this union two children were born. She later wed Harrison Lee Prude, both preceded her in death. Lessie moved to Kankakee, Illinois in 1945 and united with the Morning Star Baptist Church. She served as an usher, choir member and was appointed to the Mother’s Board.

Lessie had been employed at Kankakee State Hospital for many years until her retirement. She enjoyed sewing and singing.

Lessie moved to Las Vegas in 2006 where she lived until her passing on Tuesday, February 23, 2010. She leaves to cherish precious memories, her daughter, Ernestine Tharpe of Las Vegas, NV; one sister, Lucille Pankey of Kankakee; two brothers, I.C. (Addie) Cochran of Pelham, GA and Postelle (Dorothy M.) Cochran of Peru, IN; 14 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, 4 great-great grandchildren, a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Funeral Information

The family will receive family and friends on Monday, March 8, 2010 at 9:00 a.m. until the 10 a.m. funeral services at the Morning Star Baptist Church, 570 North Harrison Avenue. Burial will be in the Danville National Cemetery, Danville, IL. Rev. William H. Copeland, Jr. will be the eugolist.
