Obituary for Bert L. Dear, Sr.

Bert Dear Sr., 89 a lifelong resident of Kankakee, made his transition to eternal life on Saturday, December 22, 2018, at his home surrounded by family. Born to the proud parents, William and Laura Dear. He was united in holy matrimony to Elizabeth Eggleston on February 10, 1952.

Mr. Dear was an honorable discharged veteran of the USA Army. He retired from Valspar after 41 years where he served as Union President. He was also employed by Ford Motor Company for 5 years, a successful entrepreneur for over ten years, which he owned and operated the Paradise Lounge.

He was a diligent and dedicated community activist and outspoken proponent of Equal Rights and Civic Responsibility, he served in the northeast Community Council. The first Black President of the NAACP in Kankakee County. He was elected over five terms as Kankakee Township Trustee and several other ad-hoc committees in the community.
Mr. Dear was a member of Caldwell Chapel AME ZION Methodist Church for over 65 years. He served as Trustee for many years. Whatever he was involved in, he worked tirelessly giving of himself and also his finances.

He had an unwavering love for people and was always ready to engage in conversation on any topic. He put the “F” In fashion.

He leaves to cherish his memory his devoted and lovely wife, Elizabeth Dear, to this union was, two daughters, Lynette (Quidon) Brown, Kankakee; Audrey McMiller , Phoenix, AZ.; two Sons, Bert (Doris) Dear Jr., Kankakee; Dana Dear Sr. Glendale, AZ; two more daughters, Bernice (Ray) Satterwhite, Phoenix, AZ, and Sheila Harris, California; one son, Doreese Winfield, Las Vegas; One brother, Walter Spurlock, Crete, Il; three brothers in-laws, Sam (Eva) Ames and Willie Ames, Kankakee, IL; Sherman Ames, Columbus, MS.; Julia (Everette) Branson, Chicago, IL; Sandra Ames, Griffith, IN; 15 grandchildren, 24 great- grandchildren, 5 great- great- grand-children and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and close friends which are too numerous to name.

Anxiously awaiting his arrival, his Parents, one son, Andre White, two brothers, Fredrick and William Dear. and a host of other Relatives and Friends.

Visitation will continue from 5 pm-7 pm on Friday at the funeral home. Funeral services will be on Saturday, December 29, at 10 am at the Second Baptist Church. Pastor Tyler Prude is the officiant and Pastor Carl Randle is the eulogist.
