Obituary for Doris M. Jennings

Doris Johnson Jennings was born on July 21, 1925 to the late John and Hattie Johnson in Cairo, Illinois. She as a Sumner High School graduate class of 1943 and did a year at Howard University in Washington, DC.

She was employed at OPS office at the Pentagon in Washington, DC for numerous years. She later returned to Cairo, IL and worked in many offices the last one being Shawnee Development Council office for thirty-two years where she retired. She was a member of the Ward Chapel AME Church.

Doris was also preceded in death by her husband James Jennings; her brother, Hervey Johnson and her sister, Shirley Guerden.

Doris passed away on Friday, November 23, 2018 at Presence St. Mary’s Hospital. She leaves to cherish her memory, her children, James, Jr. (Nellie) of South Bend, IN, Hervey (Lucia) of Bradley, IL and Dianne (Craig) Watson of Decatur, GA; ten grandchildren, a host of great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services will follow at 11 AM also at the Funeral Home. Rev. Josephe Lightfoot will officiate. Burial will be on Friday, November 30, 2018 at 1 PM in the Spencer Heights Memorial Cemetery in Mounds, IL.
