Obituary for Ionia Foster

Ionia Thigpen Foster (Mother) was born on July 17, 1922 in New Orleans, LA to the union of Bennie Thigpen & Rosa Erby Thigpen.

Ionia was united in marriage to Marvin Foster on April 15, 1948. In 1958, Ionia and Marvin moved from Robbins, IL to Momence (Forest Valley/Pembroke) Illinois where they grew vegetables and raised chickens. Many people remember her carrying those goods to other towns to market the produce. Ionia volunteered countless hours working around her Pembroke Community, lending a helping hand whenever needed.

Ionia accepted Jesus Christ as her personal savior at an early age. She was a member of Pembroke Community Reformed Church for over 40 yrs. She was a faithful servant. During her time there she sang in the choir, attended Sunday School every Sunday, was active in the Women’s Guild and was in charge of the CRAFT Resale Store. She later joined Greater New Hope under the Pastorship of Pastor Howard Wills Sr. and attended faithfully until her health declined.

On Sunday, October 27th, Ionia would like to let you know that her work here was done. She received a call, sort of an offer she couldn’t refuse, for an appointment from which she will not be returning. The assignment came with a huge sign on bonus. A reunion with family and friends she has not seen in a long time.

Ionia (Mother) leaves to cherish her memories, two daughters, Delores (Cornell) Porter of Chicago, IL, Donna (Willie) Odeneal of Bourbonnais, IL; one sister-in-law Irene Foster of Robbins, IL, 15 grandchildren, 37 great grandchildren, 24 great-great grandchildren, a host nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ionia was preceded in death by her parents, her husband Marvin, two sons, William Williamson Jr. and Marvin Foster, Jr., daughter Hazel Jackson, one granddaughter, Bertha Jackson, sisters Alma, Hilda & Jeanette; brothers, Bernard & Bennie.
Ionia’s infectious smile, warm personality and love for her family will be truly missed.
