Obituary for Rodney Lamont Petty

Rodney Lamont Petty was born on March 11, 1974 in Kankakee, IL to Cora L. Petty and Willie McNeil. Rodney was married on May 15, 2010 in Kankakee to Edith Bender. He had been a member of Community Church of Holiness of Kankakee (where he had been baptized.

A 1993 graduate of Kankakee High School, Rodney had been a soccer coach for the YMCA/mentor for young teens. He was a Directional Support worker for Pinnacle Opportunities, previously working at Momence Meadows Nursing for a number of years.
He also was employee of the month for Sports Group.

Rodney always had the drive to be an entrepreneur; therefore, he opened his store, 561 Fashions. He loved football. He spent many years playing for the Eastside Bull Dogs and Kankakee High School. He played both the “Middle line backer and full back positions. Secondary to football he loved basketball. The LA Lakers were his favorite team. Rodney loved playing his video game, planting flowers and helping others especially the elderly and mentally disabled and spending time with family.

Rodney departed this life on Sunday, December 2, 2018. He leaves fond memories with his wife, Edith of Kankakee; sons, Antonio Moore of Kankakee and Devontae Petty of Orlando, FL; daughters, Brianna Petty of Little Rock, AR, Tatyona Dabney-Petty, Deanna Moore, Shakyla Petty and Amia Petty all of Kankakee; sisters, Pam Terrell Holder of Minnesota, Melody Mays of Oklahoma and Lola McNeil of Kankakee; brother, Willie Petty of Kankakee; four grandchildren; aunts, Barbara Brooks, Mary Jane Hammond, Mary Sue Hatcher, Katie (James) Dargan and Rose Mary Jones, special aunt/mom/cousin, Diane Johnson; special nephews, Willie Petty, Jr. and Carlos Beck; special cousin, Christon Banks; step-mom, Cheryl McNeil; brothers and sisters-in-law, Tyrice Bender, Tyrone Bender, Mario (Courtney) Davis, Lasandra (David) Blocker Jenson and Candice (Jesse) Hatcher; special mother-in-law, Sandra Sutton; His special pet and friend, Debo Lamont Petty; special friends, Elisha Barron, Jason Burse, Curtis Simmons, Reno Banks, Kevin Hodges and Jason Covington; several nieces, nephews, cousins and other friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, grandparents, Annie Bell & Nathaniel Petty; sister, Theresa Beck; aunts, Bunny Davis, Delores Seymore, Gloria Harbor and Barbara Contly; uncles, Nathaniel Petty and Elisha Petty; brother-in-law, Travis Bender.
